mmWave MIMO Radar System Design

This web presentation covers the design of a frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) MIMO radar system with Cadence® AWR Design Environment®  software. The purpose of the system is for short range high-resolution localization of nearby moving objects. Four-channel transmitter and receiver chips are designed using a 130nm SiGe process. The total number of TX and RX channels can be scaled by the number of chips in the system while still maintaining phase coherence between the channels. Measurements are made with a 4 TX channel and 8 RX channel system and simulation vs. measurement results are also presented.

Presenter Bio
Dr. Tero Kiuru is an expert in characterization, modeling, design, and testing of millimeter-wave and THz front-end components. He has participated in the European Space Agency’s Ph.D. program, and was a visiting postdoctoral scholar at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (NASA/Caltech) in Pasadena, California, working with millimeter-wave receiver devices. Dr. Kiuru is currently a senior scientist at the VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd, where his research interests include millimeter-wave receiver and radar applications. Dr. Kiuru received his D.Sc. (Tech.) degree in electrical engineering from Aalto University, Espoo, Finland.
